Things are Heating Up: The Hottest Movies in San Diego July

It’s getting hot, hot, hot, so come cool down on our rooftop, San Diego! We’re kicking off the month of July with an amazing mix of movies and to celebrate, we’re sharing some of our fave films screening on our rooftop this month!

Stand and Deliver (1988)

Why You Should Watch It:

You’re trying to figure out how to make yourself more relatable to the youth. Let’s face it, teens can be tough to reach, even if you’re someone super famous, like Edward James Olmos. Based on a true story, Olmos motivates a bunch of kids to care about actually care about calculus, which is truly an amazing feat, especially considering that our favorite high school subject was lunch.

Stay after class on July 10th.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because sometimes the world is too loud and you just need to go to your quiet place. Seeking something spooky this summer? A Quiet Place is the movie for you. Directed and starring our favorite Dunder Mifflin employee, John Krasinski, and his IRL wife Emily Blunt (total relationship goals, btw), will have you sitting at the edge of your deck seat.

Be quiet on July 12th.

Cool Runnings (1993)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because you can’t wait until the next Winter Olympics (2022 is soooo far!)  One of the greatest underdog stories of all time, Cool Runnings will inspire you to gather your own group and start a bobsled team of your own. Good luck!

Defy all odds on July 24th.

Romeo + Juliet (1996)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because it’s the greatest love story of all time, duh! Starring a baby faced Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo, and the super chic Claire Danes as Juliet, this 90s flick gave a much needed facelift to the Shakespearen franchise. Seriously, we would’ve paid more attention in English class if our teacher’s lesson plan had a soundtrack featuring Radiohead. Just sayin…

Bite your thumb at us on June 20th.

“I defy you, stars!” – Romeo

The Breakfast Club (1985)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because it’s been a while since you’ve been in high school and you’re feeling a bit nostalgic. All jokes aside, our experience in detention definitely wasn’t this fun (we swear it only happened a few times). There were no bonding sessions between brains, athletes, basket cases, princesses, or criminals. Instead, it was just a bunch of writing on chalkboards. Boooor…ing!

Report to detention on July 25th.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because we’ve had the time of our life, and we know we owe it all to Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing! You know you’re tempted to invite your date to do the lift on our rooftop. But seriously don’t do that. You’ll probably hurt yourself.

Put Baby in a corner on July 13th.

“Look, spaghetti arms. This is my dance space. This is your dance space. I don’t go into yours, you don’t go into mine.” – Johnny Castle

Moonlight (2016)

Why You Should Watch It:

Because you can use “Watching Moonlight by Moonlight!” as your Instagram caption. You’re welcome. But seriously, if you haven’t seen Moonlight, you should. A beautiful coming of age story told in three parts, it will completely unravel any expectations you may have about it. It also caused that whole Oscar mix-up a few years ago, which is still pretty funny if you ask us.

Decide who you’re going to be on July 14th.
