Top 10: Ryan Gosling

We’re pretty sure you can’t get enough of Ryan Gosling, ’cause neither can we. We even went as far as making a list of his 10 BEST films, ever. In no particular order…

1. Only God Forgives

Plot:

Who even knows, tbh? A drug-smuggler in Bangkok has a SUPER weird relationship with his mother. She basically forces him to find and kill the person who killed his brother… and then… uh… well, basically… his mother takes being a strong independent woman to a whole new weird place. We don’t even think God would forgive this.

Fun fact:

Ryan Gosling’s character, Julien, only speaks 17 lines throughout the entire film…. But we SWEAR he’s the main character.

Behind the scenes:

2. The Nice Guys

Plot:

A movie title has never lied to you as much as this one is right now. If these guys are nice, Voldemort is a saint (oops, totally just said his name). Picture this: The 1970s. LA. Two private investigators, both of are kinda stupid in their own special way. A strip club. A little girl attempting to throw boiling water over someone.

Fun fact:

The bird drawn on Ryan’s cast is a gosling. Get it? Cute AF.

Behind the scenes:

3. Lars and the Real Girl

Plot:

Some people shouldn’t be allowed in public. Some of those people are criminals, and some of them are Lars. Lars Lindstrom. Brought out of his shell by the mega beauts Bianca, a wheelchair-bound missionary. Lars takes crippling social awkwardness to a whole new level. Like, his-new-squeeze-is-a-sex-doll level. Hey, we ain’t judgin’.

Fun fact:

It only took 31 days to shoot. Fancy taking a month off to shoot a movie with Ryan Gosling? Yeah. Don’t mind if we do.

Behind the scenes:

4. Drive

Plot:

A quiet man falls in love and wants to protect the pretty woman next door from his mega dangerous crime-riddled lifestyle. Also, that one elevator scene… ammirite?! It’s a DMV advert. If you never got your license, you’ll regret it now… (or you’ll be glad you’re not on the road with this dude.)

Fun fact:

Originally, the Driver died after being stabbed by Bernie. We’re NOT here for that version, thanks for the offer, though.

Behind the scenes:

5. La La Land

Plot:

A couple of nobodies try to become a couple of somebodies but can’t be a couple AND somebodies so they become single somebodies instead. #SpoilerAlert there’s a lot of singing and dancing.

Fun fact:

If you look hard enough you can see dents in the hoods and roofs of cars. We’re not saying it’s hilarious to imagine the dancers slipping… but… it kinda is…

Behind the scenes:

6. The Notebook

Plot:

IF YOU’RE A BIRD, I’M A BIRD. *ugly sobbing*

Don’t act like you don’t watch The Notebook pining for someone to rub ice cream on your nose. A couple have arguments more heated than a volcano, but that doesn’t stop them from loving the sh*t out of each other. What’s important is they try.

Fun fact:

Ryan ACTUALLY built the kitchen table. Like, where’s Ryan Gosling when we’re trying to put together IKEA furniture? Can a Ryan Gosling come with every delivery, or…?

Behind the scenes:

7. Blade Runner 2049

Plot:

Set thirty years after Blade Runner, Replicants are back in fashion ‘cause people NEVER LEARN. Tasked with hunting down and retiring volatile older models, Officer K – a replicant – makes a disturbing discovery that sometimes it IS possible to have too much gel in your hair. Ryan proved he can brood just as well as Harrison Ford, and that’s all we were hoping for, tbh.

Fun fact:

The opening scene of K confronting Sapper Morton is almost exactly a scene which never made it into the original Blade Runner.

Behind the scenes:

8. Blue Valentine

Plot:

Do YOU wanna question whether or not marriage is really worth it?! Wanna cry yourself to sleep only to wake up and cry some more?! Have we got the movie for you! Watch turbulent ups and downs in the life of a young married couple to destroy your heart and make sure that you don’t have even a slither of hope left. But don’t worry, Ryan Gosling playing the ukulele will probably save your soul.

Fun fact:

The tattoo on Dean’s arm is from ‘The Giving Tree’ – a book about sacrificing for other people and giving what you can.

We’re not crying, that’s just eye sweat.

Behind the scenes:

9. Crazy, Stupid, Love

Plot:

After his wife drops a bombshell by asking for a divorce (we’re starting to see a pattern), Cal is all “I’ve lost my mojo” and playa Jacob is all “Okay Austin Powers”. It basically just points out that Ryan could have literally anyone he wanted IRL (like we needed this reminder?) while also showing us where Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s co-stardom began, which would eventually bring us the pretty perfect La La Land (and Gangster Squad… but let’s not talk about that…)

Fun fact:

They couldn’t come up with a title so much that the filmmakers ended up giving out a free iPad to anyone who could come up with one. That’s just good business.

Behind the scenes:

10. Half Nelson

Plot:

It’s impossible to prepare for this, so don’t even try. For real. It’s one of the wildest rides Ryan Gosling will ever take you on. It’s the story of a teacher that gets a little too close to students for comfort. It’s emotional. It’s messy. It’s the type of movie you watch when your fridge breaks down and you need to eat about 5 pots of ice cream.

Fun fact:

Ryan Gosling received his VERY first Academy Awards nomination for Best Actor for this movie. You go, Ryan Gosling. We’re so proud of you, boo.
