For Pride Month this year we’re showing multiple LGBTQIA+ hits and films loved by the community! To this day, few movies have played with gender and sexuality as openly and joyfully as She’s the Man. An adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, She’s the Man stands out in the deluge of mid-2000s teen comedies with the fluid identities and presentations of its characters, treating gender as a performance rather than something innate. Mistaken identities, hidden agendas, and rapid-fire gender swaps (who can forget the iconic carnival scene!) have cemented She’s the Man as a modern classic for anyone who has ever felt limited by gendered expectations.
