Spectacular September Movies: Top 5 Movies in Los Angeles
‘Sup September – we’ve been waiting for you! We’re so excited to kick-off our fall season (almost as excited as we were for Pumpkin Spice Lattes to make a return – yum!). To celebrate, we’re sharing some of our fave films screening on our LA rooftop this month!
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
Why You Should Watch It:
Because you love young love. We’re dreaming of the day we can quit adulting and run away to a beach with our crushes, but unfortunately, we’re starting to realize we might just be a bit too old for that…Instead, you can scout out our screening of Moonrise Kingdom, a colorful, coming of age classic which touches on some very adult themes like juvenile mental health and family break-up all in a charming Wes Anderson way.
Escape to Moonrise Kingdom on September 1st..

Purple Rain (1984)
Why You Should Watch It:
Because we’re bringing some much needed rain to Los Angeles! Catch the Morris Day and the Timeless rocker flick that still reigns supreme after almost 30 years. Join the Rooftop Revolution and enjoy the downpour with us.
Purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka on September 16th.

“Thank you for a funky time, call me up whenever you want to grind. Yeeaaah!” – The Kid
The Lion King (1994)
Why You Should Watch It:
Because it’s a classic that’s inspired a Broadway play, sequels, tv shows, and a new film starring the one and only Queen Bee (2019 can’t come soon enough!). We’re throwing it way back to when we were young warthogs and screening one of the most amazing animated movies of all time. No, we’re not being dramatic, The Lion King is so amazing, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. So uh, yeah, it’s pretty damn important.
Chow down on some grub, August 30th

Drive (2011)
Why You Should Watch It:
Because you need an excuse to wear your satin scorpion bomber jacket. Drive is one of the most LA movies ever and what better place to watch it than on our Hollywood rooftop? Seriously, the movie is called Drive, what’s more LA than being stuck in your car? Actually, we noticed that The Driver never seems to get stuck in traffic. What is his secret? Hit us up.
Drive us through the night, down the hills on September 10th.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Why You Should Watch It:
Because you can’t even count the times you’ve daydreamed about escaping from work or school using a rock hammer and hoped that no one would notice. Another film selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation, our protagonist goes through some real shit in this movie. No spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet, but seriously, Andy has it pretty tough. It’s not all bad, he becomes besties with Morgan Freeman, who’s soothing voice might ease some of the burdens of serving double life sentences.
Escape from prison on September 19th.
